Battle of the Wills

As with anything in life there will always be choices. With every action there comes a reaction, no matter how you look at it. Well, with a child there’s always an action and sometimes you need to act fast. In this case, I ended up missing one of my classes because I had to bring my daughter to the walk-in clinic immediately. It started off as an ordinary morning, nothing really different except my daughter had woken up miserable. That was the first warning, that today might not go as I had planned. what was my plan you ask? simple, for the morning to go as smoothly as possible. Simple right? Not with a three year old daughter. She started off the morning not wanting cereal but an alternative, fine, whatever made our morning routine go easier. She had her substitute, I got her ready, put on her jacket, hats and gloves. As we were about to leave the house so she could get to daycare on time, she started to throw a tantrum. “Sis was just not having it”. She wanted cereal and she wanted it now, well I for one was not going to back down, so I held firm and told her the chance for cereal was up.

On the walk there, she decided she wasn’t very happy with my decision and time and time again showed me just how much she disagreed. I ignored it all, now this where it gets interesting. She was wearing this cute head band, with cat ears. She took off her head band and started to throw a tantrum, as soon as we reached the front of the daycare. The end of the headband hit her eye and she broke a blood vessel. I had to bring her to walk-in. We waited there for at least an hour, for the doctor to explain that it was a superficial wound but I needed to watch it just in case. Whew, I was so frustrated. Not only did I miss my class and the in class assignment, but I had to wait an hour for a diagnosis. Yet, I was relieved, as the saying goes better safe than sorry. After it all, my daughter was happy and laughing, I had to sit there and wonder if I got played by a three year old. So dear teacher, I apologize that I missed your class, but when it comes to the battle of wills, I do believe my daughter inadvertently won this round!
